Recompete Pilot Program Webinar

Aspen CSG and our Reimagining Rural Assistance Network (RRAN) partners hosted a webinar on Thursday, June 29th at 3 pm ET about one of the exciting new programs established by the CHIPS and Science Act: The Recompete Pilot Program.

This new program aims to invest $200M in geographically diverse economically distressed communities, as measured by the prime-age employment gap (a measure of how many adults aged 25-54 are employed in a community compared to the national average of employment among prime-age adults).

The Recompete Pilot Program’s goal is to “alleviate persistent economic distress and support long-term comprehensive economic development and job creation in eligible areas.”  See 15 USC § 3722b(a).

The Notice of Funding Opportunity is expected later this month, so now is the time to learn and prepare.

At this webinar, we discussed:

  • Rural organizations about why the Recompete Pilot Program presents a significant opportunity for rural and tribal communities
  • EDA officials describing Recompete eligibility and the grant opportunity
  • Local rural leaders’ insights on how they’ve developed partnerships and strategies for similar federal funding opportunities

We encourage you to review EDA’s materials as well. EDA recently released a mapping tool that shows eligible communities, including rural and tribal communities, and a fact sheet with details on the program.
