Interim Report on Minimum Wage Effects on Rural Labor Markets

View this Publication

Paper looks at the response of firms to changes in the minimum wage.

Paper seeks to examine what impacts minimum wage increases have on labor markets and non minimum wage workers. Findings point to evidence of firms trying to maintain wage hierarchies with data showing increases in wages greater than what was legally mandated. Whether prices increased in these low wage markets remained tentative as research pointed to mixed results. Lastly, employment levels of firms did not decline significantly as a result of changes in minimum wage requirements.
