Brief focuses on changing spatial patterns of population distribution in the United States. Aim of brief is to shed light on the broad subject of demographic change by reference to international experience. Authors note gaps in research such as lack of general survey of qualitative aspects of migration behavior and studies of linkages between population changes and employment change, including the way in which nature of labor demand is altering; the closer examination of the way in which metropolitan periphery and rural settlement systems are evolving.
