Paper provides insights about challenges facing Great Plains region’s communities and success strategies through a series of interview findings with practitioners, civic leaders, elected officials and others who are on the front line of economic development. Participants focused on issues of market competitiveness as seen through infrastructure, demographics, economic development, education and government. General impressions focused on: (1)importance of adapting to the demands of the New Economy, (2)importance of the private sector and of local leadership, (3) need to invest in human resources, (4) need to build upon and expand both technology and trade, (5) changing role of government.
